MECHANICAL ENGINEERING PORTFOLIO
Quench Tank Design
In this project, we were tasked with designing a quench tank cross section with project constraints such as maximum fluid velocity and pressure drop along baffles. Ensuring these parameters are within acceptable limits is important because it directly affects the efficiency and effectiveness of the quenching process. Properly designed baffles and controlled fluid velocity help achieve uniform cooling, prevent thermal stresses, and avoid distortions or cracks in the material. Additionally, minimizing pressure drop is crucial for maintaining energy efficiency and reducing operational costs, thereby contributing to the overall sustainability and economic viability of the manufacturing process.
